An Introduction to the Malcman
Figuring out what I want to say and answering the question: "Who is this guy?"
“Who are you?”
I’m Malcolm Rambert. I’m an Eagle Scout with an Associates’ Degree in Business and a Bachelors’ Degree in Liberal Arts. I recently turned 30 years old (and by recently I mean the 25th of May) and I figured it was time I’d do a blog on this website (especially since I have to go back to my original blog on Blogspot.)
“Do you have any prior writing experience?”
I wrote my first paid essay in 2021 for an online magazine called Blood Knife, which was inspired by a show I liked called Infinity Train getting canceled. Since, then I’ve been writing interviews and reviews for a website called BubbleBlabber and taking part in an Adventure Time retrospective called “Come Along With Me” at The Avocado, a website hosted by former A.V. Club writers. I also regularly review movies and miniseries on Letterboxd.
“So all you do is write?”
I’ve done a number of things during my time online, usually under the pseudonym “MalcmanIsHere”. I’ve been an editor on TV Tropes and submitter to the music sample information website Whosampled for who over a decade now (just to clarify, I made the latter account long before Spotify bought the site. I’m no snitch). I’ve also contributed questions and sent in material for podcasts like Kino Lefter and Flash in the Pan.
I recently started uploading various material to the Internet Archive and I’m hoping to more things with my account on Newgrounds.
“What exactly do you plan on writing?”
Hopefully many insightful reviews, analyses, and interviews. I mainly focus on animation, comics, music, and general trivia related to all three. I already have a few ideas of what I want to write about, including series like Adventure Time and The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder. You might see some recommendations from me regarding other websites or online creators that I like.
“Why don’t you just make video essays regarding niche material like this?”
I’ve wanted to make video essays for a LONG time, but for the time being, I never focused on working with such software in a way that I could make my points in a degree I found satisfying. I figured the next best thing is doing a blog like this that people can check up on; who knows, if I get a big enough following, I could eventually migrate to YouTube and/or make my own website.
“How do I know what you write isn’t going to be stuff I’ve seen before, perspective-wise?”
I can’t count on that being the case. I guess you’ll just have to subscribe and find out.
